PM&L Theatre and director Lorrie Ferguson are pleased to welcome actors of all ages to audition for our production of Bill W and Dr. Bob by Samuel Shem and Janet Surrey.

Auditioners must have completed their online audition form and reserved an audition slot before arrival. Audition forms and slots can be scheduled on a walk-in basis but are preferred in advance.

Auditions will be held on Monday, March 25, and Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at PM&L Theatre, located at 877 Main Street in Antioch, IL. Callbacks will be held on Wednesday, March 27. Each auditioner will audition in small groups. Auditioners will read both monologues and cold readings from the script however, prepared monologues are not necessary.

There are no rules for children or young adults in this production. The show is set primarily in the 1930s, and both humor and dramatic acting will be required.

Bill W. and Dr. Bob will open on Friday, May 17, and will run for three weekends until Sunday, June 2.

Roles are available for a diverse cast of characters who played pivotal roles in Bill and Bob’s lives and in the founding of an organization that would change millions of lives around the world.

Cast of Characters

Bill Wilson
Co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, a struggling stockbroker who battles his own alcoholism.
Dr. Bob Smith
A surgeon from Akron, Ohio, and the other co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, fighting his own battle with alcohol.
Lois Wilson
Bill’s supportive but weary wife who faces the challenges of her husband’s addiction while finding her own path to recovery.
Anne Smith
Dr. Bob’s devoted wife, strong and patient, she plays a crucial role in the foundation of AA and the support system for the families of alcoholics.
Henrietta Seiberling
A friend of the Smiths who introduces Bill to Dr. Bob, instrumental in the founding moments of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Bill Dotson
A known “hopeless” alcoholic who becomes AA’s third member after being visited by Bill and Bob while hospitalized.
Ebby Thatcher
Bill W.’s old drinking buddy who has found sobriety through a Christian fellowship, inspiring Bill to seek a spiritual solution to his problem.
Dr. Silkworth
The doctor at Towns Hospital who treats Bill W. and provides crucial medical insight into the disease concept of alcoholism.
Various Roles
Includes members of the Oxford Group, hospital staff, townspeople, and others impacted by the lives and efforts of Bill W. and Dr. Bob.
